Shimla, June 3 (PTI) Hitting out at Congress over its performance in recent panchayat and urban local bodies elections, Himachal Pradesh BJP president on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging people have lost faith in the government.
Rajeev Bindal, in a press statement, said that the chief minister should resign on moral grounds so that fresh Legislative Assembly elections can be held in the state to elect a government according to the people's preference.
He said that people's anger against the government and Congress party was visible during the elections and that growing support for BJP signals a political shift in the state.
He also accused the chief minister of trying to delay the elections, which were held following the court's order.
Bindal claimed that Congress suffered setbacks even in areas considered strongholds of its leadership, while BJP registered significant victories in the constituencies of several senior ministers.
"In Sirmaur district, BJP won 13 out of 17 Zila Parishad seats. However, in Hamirpur, which is the home district of the chief minister, Congress performed very poorly," Bindal said.
He also accused the Congress government of openly misusing state power, administrative machinery, financial resources, and official influence during the elections.
Despite this, he said, the people of the state, through their votes, democratically rejected the government's alleged anti-people policies and arrogance.
Thanking the people of the state for their mandate, he further assured the people that the party will continue working for development and for the welfare of the people. PTI/COR SHS
