Guwahati, Jul 10 (PTI) The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Friday urged the people to take precautions following the IMD's prediction of widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms in the city and across the state from Friday and for the next few days due to current meteorological conditions and the state's monsoons.
The weather pattern suggests that thunderstorms with lightning, with a few spells of moderate rainfall, and isolated occurrences of heavy rainfall are very likely in Guwahati and in the southern and central districts of the state over the next two to three days.
This may cause waterlogging, flash floods, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable pockets, the ASDMA said in a statement on Friday.
The district authorities and ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.
''In view of the situation, Assam State Disaster Management Authority requests all people of Guwahati city to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant,'' the release stated.
Daily commuters and long-distance travellers are requested to plan their routines accordingly, avoiding unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall. Residents in low-lying and hillside areas were also urged to stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides.
The ASDMA also advised people to stay tuned to official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this prolonged spell of rain. PTI DG NN
