Haryana man arrested for posting bomb threats to police stations across Uttarakhand

Dehradun, June 29 (PTI) The Dehradun Police has arrested a 26-year-old man from Haryana for allegedly posting bomb threats against all police stations in Uttarakhand on various social media platforms, officials said on Monday. The accused, identified as Jaspreet Singh, told the police during interrogation that he was distressed by a recent dispute between local youths and Nihang Sikhs in the Karnaprayag area of Chamoli district, and the subsequent police action. A resident of Ambala in Haryana, Singh was arrested from the Kotwali Nagar area here on Sunday. The police also seized the mobile phone used to upload the threatening content. According to the police, Singh posted the threats on June 25 using his Instagram handle, "Jaspreet-devil", along with targeted posts on Facebook and X platforms, with the intention of creating public panic and challenging the state law enforcement. Following the threat, a case was registered at the Kotwali Nagar police station under sections 351(3) (aggravated criminal intimidation) and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66F of the Information Technology Act. A special police team traced and arrested the accused after analysing digital footprints, technical surveillance, and cyber evidence. During interrogation, Singh claimed that he was upset over the clash between local youths and Nihang Sikhs in the Karnaprayag area of Chamoli district, and the subsequent police action. After viewing video reels of the incident on social media, he published the bomb threats in reaction, the police said. Authorities have urged citizens to use social media responsibly, warning that publishing misleading, threatening, or terror-inducing content is a punishable offence. PTI AKY RT RT
