Haryana chief electoral officer urges citizens to cooperate with BLOs during SIR of voter list

Editorial

Chandigarh, Jul 11 (PTI) Haryana Chief Electoral Officer A Sreenivas on Saturday appealed to people to cooperate with booth level officers (BLOs) and election staff during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He said BLOs and election officials are carrying out door-to-door distribution and collection of enumeration forms and urged all eligible voters to extend full cooperation. Sreenivas warned that any obstruction to election-related work, misbehaviour with government employees or attempts to disturb law and order would invite strict legal action. He said participation of every eligible citizen and maintaining a clean, accurate and updated electoral roll are essential for strengthening democracy. The CEO reminded voters that July 14 is the last date for submitting SIR enumeration forms and urged them to hand over filled forms to respective BLOs before the deadline. Referring to an incident reported July 10, Sreenivas said a BLO and an assistant allegedly faced misbehavious and obstruction while performing election duty under Booth No 73 in Nathusari Chopta village of Ellenabad Assembly constituency. He said the district election authorities and police acted promptly after receiving information about the incident and registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). One accused has been arrested and further legal action is underway, he added. PTI VSD ARB ARB
