Ahmedabad, Jul 6 (PTI) Heavy rainfall lashed parts of south Gujarat on Monday, with Kamrej taluka in Surat district recording the highest precipitation in the state between 6 am and 8 pm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts from Tuesday.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), Kamrej taluka in Surat district received 154 mm of rain during the 14-hour period ending at 8 pm, followed by Surat City (122 mm), Pardi (115 mm) in Valsad, Vapi (111 mm) in Valsad, Nanapondha (110 mm) in Valsad, Radhanpur (107 mm) in Patan and Khanpur (98 mm) in Mahisagar district.
Heavy showers were also reported from several other parts of south, central and north Gujarat during the day, it added.
The IMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at many places across north Gujarat and Saurashtra and at most places in south Gujarat on July 7.
The weather office issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls in Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Bhavnagar districts on Tuesday.
It has also forecast "heavy to very heavy rainfall" at isolated places in Narmada, Bharuch and Amreli, and heavy rainfall in Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Gir Somnath.
The IMD further warned of moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and surface winds of 40-50 kmph at isolated places across north Gujarat, south Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch on Tuesday.
It said "heavy to very rain" would occur at Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman while Surat, Tapi, Amreli and Bhavnagar are expected to witness heavy rain on July 8. PTI PJT BNM
