Wayanad(Kerala), Jul 8 (PTI) A technical committee of the Kerala government on Wednesday ordered the removal or covering up of the sand accumulated at the site of the Wayanad township project. The direction was issued by the committee in the wake of the recent landslide at the site of the Wayanad-Kozhikode tunnel project, which led to the loss of three lives. While 10 others sustained injuries in the tragedy, five people are still missing. The committee visited the township project area and found sand and mud accumulated in various zones of the worksite, the district administration said in a release. The panel also directed covering up the accumulated mud in some parts of the worksite with a sheet and to prepare a system to prevent water from stagnating there and to divert it to a nearby stream, it said. In view of the rain warnings in the district, the panel also assessed the need to relocate the people living near the township area. The panel also directed the removal of the mud accumulated along the temporary road to the township project area to a suitable place indicated by the Revenue department, the release added.
