Dehradun, Jul 8 (PTI) The first phase of the Congress's 10-day 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' against what the party termed were "anti-people policies" of the Uttarakhand government concluded on Wednesday.
State Congress president Ganesh Godiyal said immense public enthusiasm was witnessed during the yatra, which covered the state's 10 hill districts.
This indicates a change of government is certain after the assembly elections next year, he said.
"People in the state are fed up with unemployment, inflation, and the government's high-handedness, authoritarianism, lies and attempts to hoodwink them. They now want change," he said.
He added that people view the Congress as the only alternative to the current government to resolve their grievances.
Apart from Godiyal, these programmes held at various locations since June 29 were led by Chakrata MLA and chairman of the state election campaign committee Pritam Singh, former state party president Karan Mahra, and chairman of the state election management committee Harak Singh Rawat.
Godiyal said Congress leaders and workers met and interacted with thousands of people in the hill regions during the more than 30 large rallies, numerous smaller public meetings organised during the yatra.
He announced that the second phase of the 'Parivartan Sankalp Yatra' would commence after July 20 and will involve large-scale public outreach in the plains -- Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts -- against the government's performance. PTI DPT SKY SKY
