Lucknow, Jul 14 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Tuesday directed senior police officers to ensure that the upcoming Kanwar Yatra and other festivals are conducted with the objective of ‘zero incident and zero accident’, while stressing strict action against criminals and enhanced monitoring of law and order.
Chairing a high-level online crime review meeting with zonal ADGs, police commissioners, range IGs/DIGs and district police chiefs, the DGP reviewed preparations for the Kanwar Yatra, crime control, investigation of pending cases, traffic management and women's safety, according to an official statement.
Krishna directed officers to strengthen security arrangements along Kanwar routes, camps and ghats, deploy additional forces at sensitive locations, maintain communal harmony and ensure continuous surveillance through CCTV cameras, tethered drones and social media monitoring.
He said that the height and sound of DJs in the Kanwar Yatra should adhere to the directives of the government and court.
He said beat information was the "soul" of the Yaksh App and instructed district police to update details of active criminals through the platform and complete 100 per cent verification.
A week-long special drive will also be launched to trace criminals found missing during the verification process, he said.
The DGP asked officers to expedite the investigation of serious offences, including murder, robbery and dacoity, and take stringent legal action against habitual offenders under relevant laws, including the Gangsters Act.
Highlighting road safety measures, Krishna said the Zero Fatality Drive (ZFD) and Road Traffic Campaign (RTC) had led to a nine per cent decline in road accidents and a 10 per cent reduction in fatalities during the January 1-June 30 period, compared to the corresponding period last year, helping save more than 800 lives.
He also announced the rollout of a Case Diary Monitoring Dashboard to monitor investigations pending for more than 60 and 90 days.
The portal will issue alerts to investigating officers and supervisors 15 days before deadlines to facilitate timely and quality disposal of cases.
Reviewing the functioning of Mission Shakti Centres, the DGP said analysis of data before and after their establishment indicated a 43 per cent decline in dowry death cases and a 13 per cent reduction in dowry harassment cases.
He further directed officers to provide timely and factual information on major incidents to the media, intensify monitoring of social media platforms, take legal action against those spreading misinformation or making provocative posts, and expedite efforts to trace missing women and children.
