Jaipur, Jul 12 (PTI) A 70-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her son in Rajasthan's Bikaner district, police said on Sunday.
Station House Officer Kashyap Singh Raghav said the police have detained Ramniwas in connection with the murder of his mother, Geeta Devi, 70, in Bana village under the Sridungargarh police station area.
According to the police, the elderly woman was sleeping outside the house when the accused allegedly attacked her with a stick.
The woman's other son, Omprakash, in his complaint, said that Ramniwas was seen moving restlessly inside the house at night.
"Today, he woke up his wife and told her that their mother had died. Hearing this, she raised an alarm and other family members rushed outside," police said, citing the complaint.
Omprakash told police that when family members reached the spot, Ramniwas was near the elderly's cot and fled on seeing him.
"He had dragged the cot and assaulted our mother. When I saw him, he ran away," Omprakash alleged in his statement.
Police said preliminary information suggests that the accused may be mentally unstable, though this is yet to be verified.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem and further investigation is underway. PTI AG SHS
