Bengaluru, Jul 17 (PTI) An elderly man who sustained severe injuries after allegedly being hit by a goods vehicle in Bengaluru recently succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital here on Friday, police said. The deceased, identified as Parashuram M K (79), was a resident of Banashankari, they said. According to police, the accident occurred around 2.30 pm on July 12 near a college on Banashankari Ring Road when Parashuram was crossing the road. A speeding goods vehicle allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner hit him, causing him to suffer severe head injuries. He was initially admitted to A V Multispeciality Hospital and was later shifted to Victoria Hospital for advanced treatment, a senior police officer said. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's son, Banashankari Traffic Police registered a case under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 125(b) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The driver, identified as Manjunath, was taken into police custody and was later released on station bail, police said. Doctors at Victoria Hospital declared Parashuram dead at 6.55 am on Friday, following which police invoked Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the case. Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the accident was caused due to the rash and negligent driving of the goods vehicle driver. PTI AMP KH
