New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) The Delhi Traffic Police held a high-level coordination meeting with police and traffic authorities from Delhi-NCR and adjoining districts to review preparedness for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, an official said on Monday. The meeting focused on ensuring the smooth movement of pilgrims and minimising inconvenience to commuters, he said. The meeting, held on Friday, was attended by the joint commissioner of police, eastern range, the joint commissioner of police (traffic), additional commissioners of police (traffic), deputy commissioners of police from multiple Delhi districts and traffic ranges, the superintendent of police of Baghpat, and senior traffic officers from bordering NCR districts. During the meeting, officials reviewed the overall traffic management plan for the annual pilgrimage and discussed measures to facilitate the seamless movement of kanwariyas along designated routes while maintaining normal traffic flow across Delhi and adjoining NCR areas. "The discussions covered coordinated deployment of police personnel, traffic diversions, regulation of heavy and commercial vehicles, management of inter-state border points, parking arrangements, emergency response mechanisms and real-time sharing of operational information," a senior police officer said. Special emphasis was laid on synchronised action at Delhi's border points to ensure uniform implementation of traffic management plans and swift response to any emerging situation. The participants also reviewed contingency plans for handling peak traffic, crowd management, emergencies and other unforeseen situations during the yatra. "It was decided to maintain continuous coordination and communication among Delhi Traffic Police, district police units and police authorities of neighbouring NCR districts throughout the pilgrimage," the officer added.
