New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) A 22-year-old man wanted in an attempt-to-murder case involving a firing incident in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh has been arrested after remaining on the run for nearly three months, police said on Friday.
The accused, Vivek alias Khanjar, was arrested on Thursday following field operations, they said.
According to the police, Vivek was wanted in connection with an FIR registered at Najafgarh. He had allegedly been changing hideouts since the April 23 firing incident to evade arrest.
The case pertains to a complaint by Sanjay Malik alias Sanju, who alleged that he was shot in the leg when he intervened in a quarrel involving his acquaintance Ayush and two men -- Gaurav alias Masalewala and Prince Mittal -- at Roshan Garden in Najafgarh.
The police said Gaurav allegedly opened fire at Sanjay before fleeing the spot with Prince on a motorcycle. The injured man was rushed to a hospital.
Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team laid a trap near Dwarka Sector-10 Metro Station and arrested Vivek after a brief chase when he allegedly tried to flee on spotting the police team.
During the interrogation, Vivek told police that he had joined Gaurav and Prince to target a man with whom he had an old rivalry. However, Sanjay intervened during the confrontation and Gaurav shot him, the police said. PTI BM SMV BM SMV APL APL
