New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Burglars allegedly decamped with Rs 1.64 lakh in cash, wristwatches, a mobile phone and important documents from the residence of a retired PWD engineer in southwest Delhi's Satya Niketan, police said on Friday. The theft took place during the intervening night of July 5 and 6 under the South Campus police station limits. According to police, the accused entered the house late at night and stole Rs 1.64 lakh in cash kept in an almirah, two wristwatches, a mobile phone and certain important documents before fleeing. The occupants were unaware of the theft until later, the police said. The homeowner did not initially report the incident or lodge a complaint with the police. Officers said he agreed to file a complaint only after being persuaded by police personnel. Following the complaint, an e-FIR was registered on July 6, and an investigation was taken up. Police are analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the accused and reconstruct their movements before and after the theft. The complainant is a retired engineer from the Public Works Department. His wife has died, while his three daughters live abroad in Canada, the United States and Singapore. He currently resides in the house with domestic servants, police said. Investigators have also spoken to the domestic staff and other persons. Police clarified that the incident is a case of theft and not robbery or dacoity. PTI BM APL APL
