Nagpur, Jul 9 (PTI) The Congress on Thursday staged a protest in Maharashtra's Nagpur city to demand an "independent and impartial" probe into the alleged embezzlement in the Ayodhya Ram temple donation funds.
Congress workers led by city Congress chief Prafulla Gudadhe staged the 'Raghupati Raghav Rajaram Satyagraha' at the Poddareshwar Ram temple complex here wearing white 'Gandhi caps' and scarves bearing the party name and symbol.
Instead of shouting slogans, the Congress workers sang devotional songs.
Speaking on the occasion, Gudadhe said bringing transparency and accountability in the financial dealings of public religious institutions was the need of the hour.
"An impartial investigation into this matter is essential to preserve the reverence of devotees," he said.
After the protest, the Congress would file a complaint against Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust's office-bearers, he said.
The protesters urged the Centre not to remain a mute spectator and present facts before the people, warning that any misuse in the name of faith would not be tolerated. PTI CLS NP
