From Dumdum in North 24 Parganas, Subarna Das is a homemaker who is quietly building her own identity through gold-plated jewellery.
She began her journey in 2016, stepping into the world of jewellery-making not through formal training, but through curiosity and determination. Coming from a family where business was always present — with her mother running a saree business — Subarna was inspired to create something of her own.
She also learned by exploring online resources, watching videos, and experimenting on her own.
But the beginning was not easy.
Like many first-time creators, she struggled with confusion — where to source raw materials, what to buy, and how to start. Slowly, through trial and persistence, she found her rhythm.
Today, Subarna creates gold-plated jewellery entirely by herself. Each piece takes around 10–15 minutes to make. She sources her raw materials from Barabazar, Kolkata, and manages everything independently — from design to sales.
Unlike many artisans, she sells directly to customers — primarily through online platforms and her personal network. This direct connection allows her to understand her customers better and build trust.
But her biggest challenge is not the market — it is time.
As a homemaker and a mother, managing household responsibilities alongside her work is not easy. Finding time to create, design, and fulfill orders requires constant effort.
So she adapts.
Most of her work happens late at night — after everything else is done. That is when she sits down to design and complete her jewellery pieces, quietly building her dream one night at a time.
What makes her work special is its uniqueness — each piece reflects her personal touch and creativity.
Subarna dreams of growing her work, reaching more people, and building a stronger identity through her craft.
In her own words:
👉 “If you like my work, I would love for you to reach out and connect with me.”
