Mumbai, July 10 (PTI) A case has been registered against a BJP councillor and two others for allegedly assaulting a senior official from the Mahad Municipal Council inside his office in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, police said on Friday.
The accused have been identified as BJP councillor Suraj Bamne, Rakesh Patil and Sagar Surve.
On Wednesday, Chief Officer Dhananjay Sadashiv Kolekar was working in his office at the municipal council’s administrative building when the trio allegedly entered the premises and questioned him over ward-related issues.
An argument reportedly broke out between the two sides, which escalated into a physical assault, police said.
Kolekar suffered injuries due to the alleged assault and was admitted to the Mahad Rural Hospital for treatment and medical examination, they said.
Acting on Kolekar’s complaint, the Mahad City police registered a case against Bamne and others under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, an official said.
The complainant alleged that he was assaulted, abused and threatened with dire consequences by the accused. Following the incident, municipal council staff staged a protest and demanded strict action against those involved, they added. PTI ZA NR
