Patna, Jul 12 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday launched 982 urban development projects worth Rs 1,047 crore in Muzaffarpur district, an official statement said.
The announcement was made during Choudhary's visit to the district.
According to a statement issued by the chief minister's office (CMO), Choudhary laid the foundation stone and inaugurated 982 development projects worth Rs 1,047 crore in Muzaffarpur under the Urban Development and Housing Department of the state government.
Among the projects, 669 initiatives worth Rs 375 crore have been taken up under the Chief Minister Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme, it said.
Three stormwater drainage projects worth Rs 233 crore and other initiatives, including those under the Muzaffarpur Smart City Mission, were also launched, the CMO added.
Choudhary inaugurated the Sikandarpur Lake Front, developed at a cost of Rs 213 crore, and said the project has given Muzaffarpur "a new identity" with its fountains, lighting and artistic installations.
A university of architecture and civil engineering would be established on the MIT Muzaffarpur campus, the Bihar CM said, adding that it would "emerge as a centre of excellence for technical education, research and innovation".
Reiterating the government's commitment to infrastructure development, he said Bihar was progressing rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Reform, Perform and Transform" vision.
The CM highlighted the government's "zero-tolerance policy" towards corruption and crime.
He said that around five lakh applications had been disposed of through public grievance camps, and that unresolved cases would be heard directly by him on the second Tuesday of each month.
Choudhary said that work on the Muzaffarpur Airport would begin soon and that the proposed Patna-Muzaffarpur Rapid Rail Corridor would reduce travel time between the two cities to around 40 minutes.
The construction of the Haldia-Raxaul Highway would further strengthen Muzaffarpur's connectivity and facilitate trade by reducing travel time to Kolkata to about six hours, he added.
Choudhary thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former chief minister Nitish Kumar for the ongoing construction of the Sita Temple in Sitamarhi.
The CM's deputies, several Bihar ministers and officials were present during the occasion. PTI SUK BDC
