Bengaluru, Jul 14 (PTI) A police Sub-Inspector was arrested on Tuesday after his wife accused him of dowry harassment, domestic violence and criminal intimidation, police said.
The arrest came after the woman, an advocate, approached the Director General of Police (DGP) with a complaint seeking action against her husband, a PSI posted at the Bengaluru Police Commissioner's Office.
In her complaint, she also accused him of assaulting her for dowry and using his influence to prevent police from registering her complaint, they said.
The couple got married five years ago and have a three-year-old daughter, police said.
"An FIR has been registered and we have secured the accused PSI. He would be produced in court tomorrow. All allegations are being looked into and a delated investigation is underway,' a senior police officer said.
Speaking to reporters here, the woman alleged that she had faced years of physical and mental harassment from her husband and his family over dowry demands.
She claimed that after he was suspended in a bribery case, he repeatedly demanded Rs 50 lakh from her parents to get his suspension revoked.
"He asked me either to agree to a mutual divorce or bring money from my parents. They kept demanding Rs 50 lakh, a house and a site, and harassed me continuously," she alleged.
She further alleged that he assaulted her several times and forced her and their daughter out of the house.
During a domestic dispute last Sunday, she claimed that her husband attacked her father, who had intervened to resolve the issue, with a machete.
"Even after elders, including his sister and brother-in-law, tried to counsel him and told him to live peacefully with me, he beat me, created scenes, tore my clothes, and assaulted me," she alleged.
She alleged that he also threatened to get her killed by rowdies and would also bring criminals near their house to intimidate her.
The woman also alleged that the PSI suspected her character, denied paternity of their child and maintained relationships with other women.
She further claimed that despite approaching Kengeri Police Station with her child a few days ago, police did not register an FIR and only recorded a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) without arranging a medical examination.
Alleging that police failed to act because her husband had earlier served at the station and was a batchmate of the officers there, she said she ultimately approached the DGP with her complaint, seeking an impartial probe. PTI AMP SA
