Kolkata, Jul 7 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday visited Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district and met the parents of the 11-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered.
Adhikari met the girl's parents at the office of the SP of Baruipur police district and assured them of strict action against the culprits. Senior police officers were also present at the meeting.
Adhikari had on Monday said that the culprits would get capital punishment.
He had expressed happiness that the family of the deceased reposed trust in the government.
The body of the victim, who was missing for a day, was found dead in Surjyapur Haat area on Sunday, triggering a protest by locals who blocked the Baruipur-Joynagar Road, burnt tyres and damaged a few police vehicles, demanding the arrest of the accused persons.
Hours after the girl's body was recovered on Sunday, a man was beaten to death by angry locals on suspicion of involvement in the victim's death.
Three persons have been arrested in connection with the crime as the state government has formed a Speical investigating Team (SIT) to probe the incident. PTI SCH ACD
