Bangladeshi man held near Bihar-Nepal border for illegally staying in India

Motihari, Jul 8 (PTI) A Bangladeshi national, allegedly staying illegally in India, was arrested in Bihar's East Champaran district while attempting to cross into Nepal, police said on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Md Shiam Hossain, is a resident of Baroy Gaon under Sreenagar police station in Bangladesh's Munshiganj district, they said. Hossain was apprehended near the Maitri Bridge at Customs Chowk on the night of July 7 while allegedly trying to enter Nepal, they added. SSB Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhojraj Singh Bhati said the man initially produced a digital identity card on his mobile phone and later showed his Bangladeshi passport. A detailed examination of his mobile phone revealed suspicious documents and travel-related information, following which he was taken into custody, police said. Investigators found that Hossain possessed a Nepali visa issued on March 14, which expired on May 13. Police said he had travelled to several countries, including the UAE, Thailand, China, Malaysia, India and Nepal.
