Karnal, Jul 6 (PTI) Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is to ensure that every poor family owns a permanent house, and described the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 as a major step towards achieving that goal. Addressing a programme organised under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) at the Karnal Municipal Corporation auditorium, the Union minister also said the Centre is committed to providing dignified housing to every eligible family. A house is not merely a physical structure but the foundation of a family's dignity, security and better future, he said. The government, he added, is working to ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every eligible beneficiary. At the event, Manohar Lal handed over sanction letters to 31 beneficiaries under PMAY-U 2.0. The minister said the scheme, launched on September 1, 2024, aims to provide permanent houses to economically weaker and eligible urban families. He also said the Centre and the Haryana government are jointly implementing welfare schemes to improve the living standards of the poor. The government has adopted a transparent and fully online process for selecting the beneficiaries to ensure that only the eligible applicants receive assistance without any discrimination, the former Haryana chief minister said. He also urged the beneficiaries to complete the construction of their houses within the stipulated time and make proper use of the financial assistance provided under the scheme. According to officials, applications of 2,174 beneficiaries across Haryana have been approved in the first phase of PMAY-U 2.0. Of these, 509 beneficiaries belong to Karnal district, while 80 fall under the jurisdiction of the Karnal Municipal Corporation. PTI VSD ARI
