Assam Police gets registered as Offline Verification Seeking Entity, services to become faster: CM

Guwahati, Jul 17 (PTI) The Assam Police on Friday became the first state agency in the northeast to be registered as an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), making everyday police services faster and simpler, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. He said the Assam Police is the third force nationally to be registered as an OVSE. “Today, Assam Police became the first state agency in North East to be registered as Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) under @UIDAI,” Sarma, who also holds the Home portfolio, said in a post on X. Sarma said it is an important development for the state as large parts – hills, chars, border villages – don't have fast internet speeds, and being an OVSE will now allow a police patrol party to instantly verify someone's credentials by scanning a QR code. “Aadhaar QR code carries an unforgeable digital seal; it becomes much harder for a criminal or illegal infiltrator to use a fake or photocopied Aadhaar card to mislead the police,” the CM said. He said it will make everyday police services like tenant verification, character verification, passport verification and arms license verification faster and simpler. “With this registration, Assam takes another step forward towards efficient, water tight and people-friendly policing,” Sarma added.
