Itanagar, Jun 3 (PTI) Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district has achieved 100 per cent Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), ensuring piped drinking water supply to all 5,740 rural households in the district, officials said on Wednesday. The achievement was highlighted during a meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, at Ziro. The district's full tap water coverage extends across two development blocks, 109 gram panchayats, 200 villages and 271 habitations, providing rural residents with access to safe and reliable drinking water, officials said. To provide technical support, monitoring, and supervision of the water supply, a 10-member District Technical Unit (DTU), comprising engineers, consultants, laboratory assistants, and operators, has been constituted, they said. Protection and sustainability of water sources was also discussed in the meeting. The Source Finding Committee presented strategies for identifying, developing and safeguarding dependable water sources to meet future demand and address challenges posed by seasonal fluctuations and climate change. Plans were also outlined to expand water supply coverage to newly emerged habitations, strengthen Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), improve revenue collection systems and implement the "Jal Seva Ankalan" framework to enhance service quality and accountability, officials said.
