Gandhinagar, Jul 16 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday held a meeting in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to review the progress of the tree plantation campaign in his Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
A review meeting of the in-charges of the tree plantation campaign under 'Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Hariyali Lok Sabha' was held at Ahmedabad under Shah's chairmanship, a BJP release said, adding city mayor Hitesh Barot also attended.
Inspired by the 'Ek Pad Maa Ke Naam' campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the mass tree plantation programme to turn Gandhinagar into a "green Lok Sabha" recently created a Guinness World Record.
"To review the work done under this campaign and for the next planning, a meeting was held at Sardar Smarak in Ahmedabad under Shah's chairmanship. Shah congratulated workers, institutions and citizens who made this mass event an unprecedented success and held a detailed review of the work done so far," the release said.
"It is necessary to make well-planned efforts to ensure proper care and maintenance of all the plants planted under this campaign and to ensure that 100 percent of the trees grow completely and become lush," the release quoted Shah as saying.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the campaign has not ended with the planting one and a half crore trees but has just begun.
He appealed to the workers to continue their efforts not as a party programme but as their religious and social duty. PTI KA BNM
