Allahabad High Court

Editorial

Prayagraj, Jul 13 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Monday ordered that a petition, seeking direction to hold gram pradhan elections in Uttar Pradesh, be listed after six weeks. Justice S S Sumshery ruled on the petition filed by Arbind Rathor, challenging orders issued by the state government on May 25 and 26 by which it granted administrator status to gram pradhans till the elections were held. The petitioner sought direction to the State Election Commission to place on record a detailed and time-bound schedule for completion of the entire three-tier panchayat election in compliance with Articles 243E and 243K of the Constitution. When the matter was taken up on Monday, the court was informed that the same issue was pending before a two-judge bench. The court then adjourned the hearing for six weeks. Hearing the matter on June 25, the court had observed that gram pradhans cannot be permitted to continue as administrators. PTI COR RAJ RUK RUK
