Mathura (UP), Jul 1 (PTI) A joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and local police has seized 125 kg of ganja from a locked shop here and detained its owner, officials said on Wednesday.
STF Field Unit Agra in-charge and Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar said that, acting on a tip-off, the contraband was recovered from a sack during a search of the shop located near an underpass on the highway in Farah.
Preliminary investigation suggests the ganja had been brought for distribution in the Farah area, he said.
Kumar said that after shop owner Sanjay Sharma was detained, his father, Ashok Sharma, told police that the shop had been rented out three days ago to a local identified as Bunty.
Police are verifying the claim and investigating the source and intended recipients of the seized contraband, the officer said.
Circle Officer Praveen Tiwari and the Farah Station House Officer were also present during the raid, police added. PTI COR KIS APL APL
