West Tripura Agartala Pineapple Rubber Rignai Weaving Heritage

West Tripura district containing Agartala (Tripura's capital, India's second-closest capital to an international border — 2km from Bangladesh) is the state's commercial and administrative core. Tripura is India's second-largest natural rubber producer after Kerala — the state's hilly terrain and humid climate support a significant smallholder rubber plantation economy. Pineapple cultivation thrives in Tripura's red laterite hills — the Tripura Queen and Kew varieties are grown by tribal farmers, and the state is developing pineapple juice and canning industries. The Tripuri tribal women weave rignai (wraparound skirt) and rikutu (waist band) on traditional loin-loom in rich geometric patterns — Tripuri handloom is the state's premier cottage craft.
