Krishna Delta Rice Paddy Aquaculture Vannamei Andhra Pradesh

Krishna district in the Godavari-Krishna delta is one of India's most productive rice growing regions, where the Krishna river's Prakasam Barrage irrigation network supports kharif and rabi paddy cultivation on over 400,000 hectares of alluvial delta soil, producing the BPT (Sona Masoori) rice that is Andhra Pradesh's table rice standard consumed across South India. The delta's extensive brackish water belt — especially around Machilipatnam, Bandar, and Gudivada — supports one of India's largest vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture industries, with intensive pond farms producing 3-4 crops per year and exporting to the US, EU, and Japan. Krishna district's Machilipatnam (Masulipatnam) was the first European trading port in India established by the Dutch (1605) and later English East India Company, and the district's kalamkari resist-print cotton fabric from Machilipatnam is one of Andhra Pradesh's GI-tagged craft heritage products.
