Hisar Cattle Breed Haryana Cotton Steel Desi Cow Agriculture Hub
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Hisar district in western Haryana is the centre of India's cattle breeding science — the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) at Karnal and the HAU (Haryana Agricultural University) at Hisar develop the Hariana cattle breed (the most numerous desi breed in north India) and Murrah buffalo genetics. Hisar grows cotton and wheat on the canal-irrigated loamy soils and has India's largest Hariana cattle fair at Hisar. The Devi Lal Steel City industrial park and the Hisar Aerospace industrial zone make the district a metals and engineering hub. Hisar's Agroha archaeological site marks the capital of the Agra clan from which Agra city takes its name — the pre-Mauryan settlement site has yielded significant artefacts.
