Chandrapur Teak Forest Timber Vidarbha Maharashtra

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Chandrapur district in Vidarbha has some of India's finest teak (Tectona grandis) forests, managed by the Maharashtra Forest Department. Teak is Maharashtra's most economically important timber tree, used in furniture, shipbuilding, and flooring. Forest-dependent communities — Gond, Madiya, and Pradhan tribals — practice NTFP collection including tendu leaves, mahua flowers, and medicinal plants. Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve overlaps with teak forest and generates ecotourism income.
