Distribution of energy-efficient LED products at subsidized prices:
Products available (through local DISCOM):
- 7W/9W LED bulb: Rs 10-70 (vs market price Rs 100-150)
- BEE 5-star rated ceiling fan: Rs 1,100 (vs market price Rs 1,500-2,000)
- LED tube light: Rs 220 (vs market price Rs 350-500)
Electricity savings per household:
- Replacing 4 incandescent bulbs with LEDs: Save ~Rs 150-250/month
- LED vs incandescent: 80-90% less electricity consumption
- LED lifespan: 25,000+ hours vs 1,000 hours for incandescent
Over 36 crore LED bulbs distributed under the scheme since 2015.
How to get: Contact local electricity distribution company (DISCOM). Bring electricity bill (for account number verification). Cost deducted in easy EMI from electricity bills (for fans/tube lights).
National average electricity saved due to UJALA: 47 billion kWh/year, saving consumers Rs 18,000 crore/year.
Who can apply
All residential electricity consumers connected to the distribution network. Valid electricity connection required. Applicable to domestic consumers only (not commercial). Limit of 4 LED bulbs per household (per electricity account).
