Lambada Tribe Embroidery Art and Gusadi Dance of Warangal
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
The Lambada (Banjara) tribal community of Warangal district maintain two celebrated traditions: their distinctive embroidery art (gudi embo) and the Gusadi harvest dance performed at the Dasara festival. Lambada embroidery uses tiny mirror discs (shisha), bright silk thread in geometric patterns, and appliqué on coarse cotton to create dazzling textile compositions. The Gusadi dance involves Lambada men wearing elaborate peacock-feather headdresses and animal-hide costumes, performing an energetic circular dance believed to invoke rain and agricultural prosperity. Warangal's Lambada troupes have won awards at the Republic Day cultural parade.
