Sikar Jhunjhunu Carpet Weaving Shekhawati Wool Rajasthan
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts in the Shekhawati zone of north Rajasthan produce woollen carpet and dhurrie (cotton flat-weave rug) on horizontal frame looms, using Rajasthani and imported wool in traditional geometric and medallion carpet designs. The carpet weaving tradition in Sikar is connected to Jaipur's carpet export industry and supplies dhurries and floor carpets to export houses in Jaipur for European and American buyers. Jhunjhunu's Rani Sati temple is a major pilgrimage site drawing thousands of Marwari businessmen from across India for the annual Bhadra Mela, reflecting the Marwari community's commercial success linked to the Shekhawati merchant tradition.
