Saharanpur Wood Carving Shisham Mango Furniture Craft UP
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Saharanpur district is India's wood carving and furniture craft capital, where over 5,000 workshops employ artisans who carve sheesham (Indian rosewood) and mango wood into intricately latticed screens (jali), cabinets, chairs, tables, and headboards using chisels and gouges in patterns of floral, geometric, and Mughal-style arabesque. Saharanpur wood carving has GI status, and the district's furniture cluster in the Hapur Road industrial area exports furniture to the Middle East, Europe, and North America. The district's Shivalik hills on the Uttarakhand border support bee colonies harvested by professional beekeepers who produce Saharanpur lychee honey and forest honey from the Shivalik ranges.
