Ropar Shivalik Hills Beekeeping Wild Honey
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
The Shivalik foothills in Rupnagar's northern belt support wild Apis cerana bee populations in forest cliff fissures and tree hollows that indigenous honey hunters extract twice yearly using smoke and traditional ladders. Organised beekeepers in Ropar's Kandi villages also maintain Italian honeybee colonies in wooden Langstroth hives, migrating them between winter mustard, spring acacia, and monsoon forest wildflower flows for multi-floral honey. Ropar's Shivalik honey fetches premium prices at organic markets in Chandigarh and online for its mixed pollen profile and low HMF content from minimal heat processing.
