Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Rohtak in the Rohtak district of Haryana is a centre of Khadi handspun cotton production, with KVIC registered cooperative spinning societies producing handspun khadi cloth and garments that serve both the institutional government procurement market and the growing urban consumer market for sustainable handmade textiles. Rohtak Khadi units produce cotton fabric, khadi sarees, kurtas, and household linen under the Khadi India brand mark. Women spinners in Rohtak district cooperatives receive piece rates for yarn spun on charkha wheels, providing supplementary income for farm families in the dryland western Haryana villages. Khadi and Village Industries Commission training centres in Rohtak district train new spinners and weavers annually. Haryana government procures Khadi for uniform programmes. The Khadi cooperative sector in Haryana is part of the national KVIC network that employs over 1 million spinners and weavers across India.
