Pithoragarh district is the gateway for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, the pilgrimage to Tibet's sacred Mount Kailash (Shiva's abode) and Lake Mansarovar, one of Hinduism's most significant pilgrimage circuits. The route through Pithoragarh follows ancient trade and pilgrimage paths through Dharchula, Garbyang, and Lipulekh pass into Tibet.
