Pathankot Terracotta Earthen Pottery Craft

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Pottery-making communities in Pathankot's sub-montane villages produce red-fired terracotta water pots, diyas, and flower planters from the river alluvium clay of the Ravi's flood plain, which fires to a characteristic warm red colour different from the paler Malwa plain clays. Pathankot potters use kick-wheel throwing and open wood-fuel kilns, supplying local markets and craft fair vendors. The proximity to Himachal Pradesh tourist routes makes Pathankot potters' decorative earthenware attractive to craft-buying travellers en route to Dalhousie, Dharamsala, and Chamba, providing an additional tourism-linked sales channel.
