Aranmula Kannadi — Sacred Metal Mirror Craft of Pathanamthitta

The Aranmula Kannadi (mirror) is a unique hand-crafted metal alloy mirror produced only in Aranmula village of Pathanamthitta district. Unlike glass mirrors, this mirror is made from a secret bronze-like alloy of copper and tin whose exact composition is a closely guarded family secret passed from father to son in a handful of artisan families. The polished metal surface reflects a true image without the double reflection that glass produces. Originally crafted for use in the Aranmula Parthasarathy temple, the mirror is considered sacred and auspicious, given as a gift for weddings and new home ceremonies. The Aranmula Kannadi holds a Geographical Indication tag and is among Kerala's most iconic craft products.
