Palwal Sugarcane Jaggery Hodal Belt Haryana
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Palwal district's Yamuna alluvial belt in the Hodal tehsil grows sugarcane that is processed at village kolhu presses and the Palwal sugar mill cooperative, producing gur jaggery and white sugar from the October to March crushing season. Hodal's gur jaggery is traded at the weekly mela and supplies sweet-makers in Mathura and Vrindavan across the Yamuna, creating a cross-border agro-trade linkage between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The Hodal mela is famous for its fresh jaggery market where farmers bring first-pressing gur for direct-to-consumer sale.
