Nuh Meo Community Artisan Craft Tradition

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

The Meo Muslim community of Nuh district practices embroidery and mirror-work craft on cotton and synthetic fabric that shows influence of both Rajasthani and Haryanvi textile traditions, producing appliqued bed covers, wall hangings, and embroidered bags sold through NGO marketing cooperatives that serve urban craft buyers in Delhi. Women artisans in Mewat's villages embroider during household hours, earning supplementary income that the Mewat Development Agency has formalised through training, raw material supply, and buyer-linkage programmes. Nuh craft cooperatives supply Delhi's craft emporia and participate in the Surajkund crafts mela each February.
