Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
North Goa district containing Panaji (Goa's capital) and the famous Calangute-Baga-Candolim beach belt combines Goa's most intense tourism economy with heritage Portuguese architecture. Feni — Goa's traditional double-distilled cashew or coconut spirit — is made by certified Goan distillers from cashew apple must and carries GI status as a geographic indication of Goa. The district's Portuguese-era heritage includes the Basilica of Bom Jesus (UNESCO, 1605) and Se Cathedral in Old Goa, azulejo tile-clad mansions in Panaji's Fontainhas Latin Quarter, and Baroque-era Konkani Catholic church architecture across 30+ villages. North Goa's cashew orchards, kokum (Garcinia indica) cultivation in the ghats, and the traditional kokum syrup (sol kadhi) are Goa's food heritage products.
