Kota Doria Cotton Silk Saree Kota Rajasthan

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Kota Doria (also Kota Dori) is a finely woven cotton-silk check fabric from Kota city in Rajasthan, characterised by its distinctive square khat (check) pattern created by alternating rows of cotton and silk in both warp and weft, producing a lightweight transparent fabric with a subtle geometric texture. The fabric's exceptional lightness (25-35 grams per metre) and breathability make it ideal for summer sarees in Rajasthan's hot climate. The weaving was established in Kota by Raja Jagat Singh in the 17th century through weavers brought from Mysore. Kota Doria has GI protection. Weaver communities in Kaithoon village near Kota are the traditional production centre, using pit looms with cotton warp and silk or cotton weft in the fine count (80-100 count cotton, 3/120 silk) check pattern. The fabric is supplied nationally through government emporiums and is exported to USA, UK, and Gulf NRI communities. Post-GI, Kota Doria is also being used for fashion wear, dupattas, and home textiles by designer brands.
