Jammu Dogra Silver Jewellery Tika Ornament Craft
Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team
Dogra craftsmen in Jammu district produce distinctive traditional jewellery including the Dogri tika forehead ornament, kundan-set pahari necklace, bala earrings, and large sunflower pendant (chander) in pure silver with locally sourced stone settings. The Jammu silversmith families work in the old Dogra quarters of Reasi and Udhampur using hand-forging, filigree wire-drawing, and stone-setting techniques passed through Sonar cooperative family lineages. The Dogra ornamental tradition integrates Rajasthani, Pahari hill-court, and Central Asian design vocabulary developed under Dogra Raja patronage. Cooperative silversmiths supply to Dogra wedding ceremony markets and cultural costume hire. The Jammu Cooperative Silversmiths Society markets to Craft Emporium Jammu and Delhi Crafts Museum procurement. Dogra silver ornaments are worn at Baisakhi, Lohri, and Navratri festivals.
