Hisar Leather Goods Artisan Community

Hisar district has a leather tanning and goods manufacturing community in the Mochi and Chamar artisan neighbourhoods of the city, producing leather jutti footwear, belts, and bridle harnesses for agricultural use using buffalo and goat hides from the district's slaughterhouse by-products. The traditional leather jutti of Hisar, embroidered with silk thread and mirror work, is a valued craft sold at local fairs and through artisan cooperatives. Hisar's leather artisans have adapted their skills to produce contemporary leather goods including wallets and bags for urban markets, facilitated by design training programmes from the Haryana Khadi and Village Industries Board.
