Una Women Craft Cooperatives and Traditional Skills Heritage

Contributed by Swadesi Knowledge Team

Women craft cooperatives in Una district produce embroidered textiles, woven items, and processed food products through self-help group enterprise models. Traditional skills in phulkari-style embroidery influenced by neighbouring Punjab tradition, woollen weaving, and food preservation are applied in organised cooperative enterprises. Government programs under NABARD and district administration provide skill training, credit, and market linkage support. The cooperative model ensures shared ownership and equitable income distribution among members. Craft tourism connecting urban visitors to artisan communities has created supplementary income and cultural appreciation. Women artisans maintaining traditional skills through collective enterprise represent an effective model for rural livelihood development preserving intangible cultural heritage.
