Ferozepur Sugarcane Cultivation Bist Doab
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Ferozepur's northern belt along the Sutlej lies in the Bist Doab where the combination of alluvial soil, canal water, and mild winters allows autumn-planted sugarcane to reach high sucrose levels for crushing at the district's sugar mills. Farmers deliver cane to the Ferozepur Sugar Mill cooperative where it is crushed into juice, clarified, and crystallised into white sugar and khandsari; the bagasse fibre residue is burned for mill power. Sugarcane cultivation in Ferozepur provides stable income in a single annual crop cycle and supports significant rural employment in cutting and transport at harvest.
