Amritsar Golden Temple Langar Community Kitchen

The langar at Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar is the world's largest free community kitchen, serving over 100,000 meals daily to people of all faiths and castes. Volunteers called sewadars knead and bake tens of thousands of rotis on large griddles, prepare dal and sabzi in giant iron karahis, and serve guests seated in rows on the marble floor. The institution embodies the Sikh principle of seva and has operated continuously for five centuries, sourcing wheat, vegetables, and ghee from donations across Punjab.
