Ambala Basmati Rice Cultivation Haryana
Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team
Ambala district's canal-irrigated alluvial soils and cool October nights create favourable conditions for basmati paddy cultivation, with farmers growing Pusa Basmati 1121 and traditional Basmati 370 varieties transplanted in June and harvested by combine in October. Ambala's rice mills process the aromatic grain for export to Middle Eastern and European markets, and the district is included in the GI-protected Basmati growing zone. The proximity to the Himalayas gives Ambala basmati slightly better grain elongation and aroma than south Haryana production, attracting premium export buyers to Ambala mandi.
