Sirsa Murrah Buffalo Dairy Ghaggar Sirsa

Contributed by Swadesi Editorial Team

Sirsa district's Ghaggar plain villages maintain large Murrah buffalo herds for dairy, with milk collected by the Vita cooperative and private dairies that process and supply the Haryana and Delhi markets. The district's Murrah buffaloes are fed on rice straw, green berseem, and cotton seed cake concentrate, producing milk with 7 to 8 percent fat that commands premium rates in the organised dairy supply chain. Progressive dairy farmers in Sirsa have adopted semen sexing technology for producing only female buffalo calves, maximising the dairy herd's economic value and reducing the economic burden of male calf rearing.
